In a recent survey of recent Sounds~Write trainees in northwest England, we learned that about half of all respondents use Sounds~Write four times a week. Around 33% use it every day, whilst the remainder use it three times a week.
In response to the question, "On a scale of 1 to 5, how successful would you say Sounds~Write has been in enabling you to teach reading and spelling?", the responses (on a scale up to 5) were all either '5, very successful' or '4, fairly successful' - the votes being split about 50/50. Perhaps it's not surprising, then, that everyone said they would recommend Sounds~Write to a colleague or friend. The only person who wasn't completely happy with this way of putting it, added that they would also recommend us to parents.
There were only two additional comments, which we take pleasure in reproducing here:
"I have really enjoyed teaching Sounds~Write and the kids have thrived on the structure it provides."
"Love teaching Sounds~Write it has helped with teaching my own children at home wish they would do it at their school too."
Do you have any thoughts you would like to share from your experience of teaching Sounds~Write? If so, we'd love to hear from you. You can email us, or visit Sounds~Write director John Walker's literacy blog: http://www.theliteracyblog.com and join in with the discussions there.
